Pre-Primary
Nurturing a Love of Dance!

Pre-Primary is mostly for students age 5 who train in pre-ballet, jazz & contemporary dance so they receive a diverse experience that sets them up for success.
​
They have a specific syllabus geared just for this age and has a fun imaginative 5-7 minute dance sequence that they absolutely love.
Children still very much learn from creative expression, but we can begin to focus on coordination, build memory sequences, and create a foundation they will have for any type of movement skills.

Benchmarks for a successful student in Pre-Primary:

Responsibility: Learn & memorize 11 exercises
​
Musicality- 8 count beat with an instrument and with then with movement
​
Levels: High, medium, and low in the same exercise
​
Time: Fast/slow in the same exercise
​
Spatial Awareness: personal & general
​
Direction: forward, backward, up, down
​
Path: circular, small & large, straight, diagonal, wavy, zig-zag, +semi-circle, line, moving in a square
​
Movement Vocabulary from DC2: Bending in parallel and 1st position, pointe front and side, jumping with 2 feet and one at a time, ballet walks, marching, ballet guru runs, pony gallops, marching with hops, side gallops, running and stopping, contract and lengthen body
​
Plus New movement: Pile in parallel and 1st position, spins, Arm and leg coordination, finger, foot, and knee coordination, posture, line, low/medium/tall ballet walks, running with arms, balance on one leg, skips, spins with a partner, jumping in and out with musical phrasing.
​
Children at this age also learn classroom etiquette, how to get and put away props, to follow instructions, and to work together in a classroom while building skills that help them foster their imagination & build success.
